Description
First widely popularized in the ‘40s by pianist Jan August (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eGHabvODrw ), this Greek song dating back to the 1920s was given an exciting new treatment by the influential “King of the Surf Guitar” Dick Dale (real name Richard Monsour) and became his signature piece, despite it never having achieved any nationwide attention upon release. His original 1962 Deltone 45 single (spelled ‘Miserlou’) was picked up by Capitol Records the following year and reissued (as ‘Misirlou’) on Deltone but with a different number. The track was also famously featured during the opening credits of Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction.”
1963 Pop Chart Peaks: Cash Box 102, Music Vendor 146
The original 45rpm single was issued on Deltone 5019 (1962) & Deltone 4939 (1963) - Misirlou (N Roubanis-F Wise-M Leeds-S K Russell) by Dick Dale and The Del-Tones
