Description
i gotta say my friends, i'm a lil proud of myself for making this one. the thing of the week of the month of the day maybe of the year, none of us know what we're doing, everybody is completely winging it, so let yourself try things. let yourself be bad at things ! but don't let not knowing how to do something "the right way" get in the way of you trying. everything i do is a result of endless failures, but thats the path!! its beautiful, it took so many iterations to finally get this whole setup together, and even then i had two other hour + long DJ sets i recorded last week where something glitched with the music or a camera and i had to start this all over.
smol little thing, so i don't profit off the DJ sets at all bc of copyright of the music, no pressure at allll am very happy to just be able to share this music with you but if you'd like i made a buymeacoffee account for donated supports to the music im doing, but again no pressure no pressure -

i've been collecting vinyl for years, i received my first crate of records back in high school before i even had a turntable. my grandma had moved to a nursing home and the family was going through her things and they were going to toss the records but i really wanted to keep them. i've got several of them out here with me that i adore, my grandma passed years ago but she loveddd Django Reinhardt and Louis Prima (i made sure to get one of those records into the mix). My first full summer in New York was back in 2017, i was living in an NYU dorm on the 9th floor with no AC and interning for SiriusXM. that summer was so life changing for me in soooo many ways. i was in my second year of college out in colorado and i had spent that whole year obsessively producing music. like many people diving into that world, i became completely entranced by the legendary artist J Dilla. I could talk about him for days, but he became my entrypoint into learning how to produce, and his method was mostly based in sampling vinyl records onto an MPC (music production controller). So that summer in my sweltering dorm, i had my record player hooked up to my computer. I would walk down to A1 records every week and grab five to ten random dollar records. take them home and sample them, chop them up and make beats. i quickly began to realize that because i had been playing jazz and classical music most of my life, i recognized tons of the records as well as the musicians who played on them. over the years i've built a small but reallllly incredible and meaningful record collection, spanning from jazz, classical, a great folk collection from my dad, hip hop, house music, and random other things. record stores have been a sort of library for me, a place where i can find artifacts. there in sooo much real living history in a record. most of vinyls i've collected are originals too and it's just such a cool experience. for so many of the records i have they were originally recorded in a studio or live, mixed on a mixing console and put onto tape. then from the tape recording the vibrations were etched into the wax of the vinyl. how cool is that? there's a certain sense of bringing back to life i feel when i put a record on, these preserved etches of a song reawakening. it's really beautiful. i had an absolutely balll making this and i cant wait to make many more. i truly hope you find some songs that you love in here, so many of these are real favorites of mine. all in all, thank you for being here. thank you for continuing to support this creative exploration that i'm on, and thank you for allowing me to try new things as well. it can feel really difficult to branch out into other creative territories because of the fear of failure and not wanting to have that negatively impact my other work. but ya know, thats no way to live. we can do anything, there's no rules, and failure is always allowed, because what doesn't work out is just as much a part of the path as the things that "do" work out. its thunderstorming outside right now so i really think this is a good time to put this on. sending lots of love to everybody.
