1980 and 1981 were years that Devo were everywhere, especially in the southern hemisphere! Beginning in the second half of 1980, 'Freedom Of Choice' and 'Whip It' both had minor chart successes in Australia, the latter having a couple of short chart runs,, but never cracking the Top 50. Until, the Devo Live EP was issued in the middle of 1981 and was a HUGE hit downunder - ending up as the 5th highest seller of that year. 'Beautiful World' was a moderate hit here (#14) and 'Working In A Coalmine' was issued right at the end of 81 and made the Top 20 early in 1982. For a lot of folks Devo are best known and loved for 'Whip It' found here in an extended form thanks to the Prime Cuts edit. The original is about half as long, and it is such a great piece of retro pop, accompanied by that bizarre clip. 'Whip It' received a lot of airplay and videoplay for nearly a year, after its 1980 release but 1981 chart success. They don't make songs or artists like this anymore.....
