His Turn to Talk — Song of Grief and Hope
“Feeling becomes prayer in the moment in which we forget ourselves and become aware of God.”
— Abraham Joshua Heschel
In the silence of my soul, I try to find a way,
To quiet my mind, to hear what you might say
Rushing through day, so much I need to do.
And the peace is elusive, God show me what's true.
A whisper from your voice, makes the urgency flee,
You say to take a moment, allow yourself to just be .
Don't speak so quickly, let God be first to start
Hush! Listen softly, as he speaks to your heart.
For God is with you, sharing the very air you breathe,
You are the beloved, let your heart believe.
He's your friend, let your words be few,
It's His turn to talk, He has words for you.
We stumble around, feeling so alone.
Other hearts beat wildly trying to find a home
But deep in the turmoil a voice calls my name.
Asking me to listen to see we're all the same.
Each word a precious treasure, wrapped in time and space,
Let my breath be measured, and my heart embrace.
Don't speak so quickly, let God be first to start
Hush! Listen softly, as he speaks to your heart.
For God is with you, sharing the very air you breathe,
You are the beloved, let your heart believe.
He's your friend, let your words be few,
It's His turn to talk, He has words for you.
And in this sacred moment, when noise crowds round,
I’m listening, Lord, to hear your slightest sound
You teach me, you hear me, in my humble quest,
To follow in the quiet, finding solace in the rest.
You know me, I need only let You lead,
In the garden of my life, plant your gentle seed.
I whisper to the stars, in the dark glass sky,
In this holy exchange, our spirits learn to fly.
Don't speak so quickly, let God be first to start
Hush now, listen softly, as he speaks to your heart.
For God is with you, he is the very air you breathe,
You are the beloved, let your heart believe.
He's your friend, let your words be few,
It's His turn to talk, He has words for you.
Shout, screan if you must, God wants to hear.
Then listen, be still, surprised that He is near.
Let our songs be soft, see Him anew,
In this timeless moment, let your words be few.
