Description
Morgan O’Kane, “New York’s banjo-playing, tambourine-toting, hillbilly-punk journeyman." (Narrative.ly / Patrick Flanary) wrote “Feufollet” for his son, and it is meant to be a children's song about being afraid of the dark. The idea is that when you're in your darkest hour of despair, recall the good times, "the light" and use it to pull yourself out and "say goodbye to the Feufollet”. The parable extends farther, speaking to resiliency, overcoming strife and self-determination.
Finding this light in the dark, respect for early American legend and tradition have always informed O’Kane’s music. “Feufollet” also shows off O’Kane playing bones which he has recently incorporated into his instrumentation adding a new layer of percussion to his tried and true suitcase kick drum. The Feufollet video incorporates the imagery of sailing and water, something we can expect more of as O'kane continues to explore the mythologies and imagery that inform his work. The video also highlights O'Kane's first Claymation production. Video shot and directed by Johnny St. Ours
