It's been 40 years since Olivia Newton-John took "Physical" to the top of the pop charts for 10 weeks. The Brit-Aussie actress-singer, who solidified her global rep starring in 'Grease' with John Travolta, had a string of song hits that began in the early 70s, but it was the 80s smash "Physical" that gave her name a broader reach in the music world. Our Footnotes episode celebrates the video's anniversary, and offers a few insights into its creation. Like the song being pitched to Tina Turner first, like O N-J not initially realizing the risque nature of the lyrics (and asking the track be pulled from its album in embarrassment), like the true reason that a work-out theme was chosen for the video treatment. Interviews with director Brian Grant and Olivia herself await.
