Description
'The Girl from Ipanema' is a Brazilian bossa nova and jazz song. It was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes. English lyrics were written later by Norman Gimbel.
Perhaps the best known version is the Stan Getz recording featuring the vocal debut of Astrud Gilberto.
This instrumental version is by Ronnie Aldrich and his Two Pianos with the London Festival Orchestra.
It comes from an English Decca Phase 4 Sereo LP titled 'The Magic Mood Of Ronnie Aldrich. (PFS 4064).
Ronald Frank Aldrich (15 February 1916 – 30 September 1993) was a British easylistening andazz pianist, arranger, conductor and composer.
He was noteworthy for the recording development of playing two pianos in his recordings, the Decca Phase 4 Stereo series, as this album demonstrates.
'The Magic Mood' was issued in 1965.
